OK, it’s time for me to get in shape. I’ve been in shape to greater or lesser degrees before but haven’t exercised regularly in the last three years. Sure, I’ve done a couple of two or three week stints in that time where I was somewhat consistent in some form of exercise but nothing long term and it’s time for that to change.
A co-worker of mine suggested the “Couch Potato To 5K” running plan as a good way to get into running shape after I bought a Garmin Forerunner 305 and the program looks to be promising. I haven’t been a runner since I was a cross country running in eighth grade and even then I didn’t like it much. I’ve tried running again about five years ago when I was in pretty good shape but never was able to get into it much.
I know running is good exercise so I want to give it another shot with this program and will be recording my progress here. The “Couch Potato To 5K” program is designed to gradually get someone who isn’t a runner to be able to run 3 miles consistently 3 days a week in just two months. My running schedule will be Mon-Wed-Fri so I will report in on those days to let you know how it’s going for me throughout the nine weeks of the program.
Well, I’d better get off to bed so I can wake up nice and early to get my run in…
Oh yeah, just for record keeping purposes I’m going to track my weight gain/loss during this period of time as well. I don’t plan on really losing any weight during this time as my goal is just to develop the baseline of fitness where I’ll be able to run three miles without stopping to rest. So with that said my starting weight is: 224 lbs.
That’s about 40 pounds over my desired weight…
